From the basement to the stage

The K Street Orchestra was formed in the summer of 2006 by Krystyna Taylor with a small group of adult students who were looking for an opportunity to play with other beginner adult string players.  At the time, Krystyna was playing with a local band who rehearsed in the basement of a law office on K Street, which became the first rehearsal space for the orchestra and its namesake.

At the time, Sacramento lacked any community orchestras that were really geared towards adult late-starter string players. There was a definite need for a beginning level orchestra that would provide a classroom type rehearsal space, teach people the basics of ensemble playing, music theory, string technique and following a conductor, while learning orchestral music that is engaging and satisfying.

Our orchestra is comprised of adults who either played violin, viola, cello or bass as children or young adults and stopped for a period of time, or students who always wanted to learn and have begun their musical journey later in life. Many of our members have been learning and playing with the orchestra for well over 10 years, some continue to stay because of the community and friendships, others continue on to other community orchestras in the greater Sacramento Area.

The K Street Orchestra is open to any adult beginner or intermediate string players that are looking for an easy-going, fun and encouraging group of other string players in an educational and social setting through a wide variety of music.
